The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a favorite of President Franklin Roosevelt, reflects the ecclectism of the New Deal. Although its primary purpose was to get the economy moving again, New Deal programs tackled a wide variety of problems, from old age pensions (Social Security) to flood control (Tennessee Valley Authority) to putting artists and writers to work (Works Progress Administration).
