Online Reply and Evaluation Rubric

Your job is to evaluate the quality of the discussions submitted by your fellow students. Post your evaluation in the same thread as the discussions to which you are replying. You will need to read most of the discussion submissions in order to select the three best discussions on each side of the issue (six total). Use the following questions to develop your evaluation. How well did they met the superior criteria of the Discussion Rubric?
  1. Did they present a well-integrated argument with a logical focus in every paragraph?
  2. Did they support their arguments with direct quotations in each paragraph from at least three different primary sources?
  3. Are formatting, length requirements, and total number of sources met?

    Assessment of Contribution

    Superior 9--10

    1. Critically evaluate the six best online discussions by other students (the best three on each side of the issue)by addressing the questions above.
    2. Organizes the evaluation around logical, topically focused paragraphs; that is, does not treat each discussion in a vacuum.
    3. Shows with direct evidence (examples and quotations) from the discussions what makes them superior.
    4. Meets length requirement of 500-700 words.

    Average 6-8

Exhibits good insights on what makes the arguments convincing. Quotes from some but not all of the prior discussions. Falls short in one of the elements required of a superior evaluation. More descriptive and informational than analytical and evaluative.

    Needs work 5 or less

Minimal, needs more work. Limited critical assessment or active intellectual engagement with the evaluation process. Perhaps you did not read enough discussions to identify the superior ones. Little or no evidence of having read and thought about the discussions. Major lapses in many rubric areas.
